The regulatory reform (Fire Safety) order 2005  places the responsibility for fire safety on the employer or ‘responsible person’ for the building or premises. Most businesses must have a fire risk assessment by law and you must put in place measures to effectively manage fire safety within your business. If you employ 5 or more members of staff, are responsible for a premises that contains two or more domestic premises ie flats or HMOs, operate a premises that requires a licence to trade or your premises is subject to an alterations notice, you are required by law to keep this assessment in writing and record your findings.
